Meet COMO Michael Williams
Commodore Michael L. Williams assumed his current office as District
Commodore for Auxiliary District Eleven North in January 2009.
Commodore Williams was raised in Coalville, Utah. He attended the
University of Utah, where he graduated in 1969. He received a Bachelors
of Science Degree in Political Science and was designated a
Distinguished Military Graduate by the Department of Military Science.
He was selected to receive a Commission as a Regular Army Officer as a
Second Lieutenant of Field Artillery.
The Commodore retired from the United States Army in 1993. His numerous
assignments include an initial assignment in Korea as a Forward
Observer, B Battery 1st Battalion 15th Field Artillery (105mm) serving
with the 2nd Infantry Division along the DMZ. Additional Field
Artillery assignments followed, with 8” Self-Propelled Howitzers and two
tours of duty in the Federal Republic of Germany. His first European
assignment was with the 1st Battalion 81st Field Artillery Pershing
Missile in Ulm, Germany. Between European Assignments he served as an
Associate Professor of Military Science at Missouri Western State
College, Saint Joseph, Missouri, and as Senior Artillery Advisor to the
Wyoming Army National Guard, 115th Field Artillery Brigade.
His second tour of duty was as Commander, Fulda Military Community and
Commander 166th Base Support Group. His command provided all
logistical and community support to the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment,
which was responsible for patrolling 162 miles of the inter-German
Border. He was on duty during the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as
during the redeployment of the Regiment from Germany to Saudi Arabia in
support of Desert Storm. He completed his active duty service as Chief
Combat Arms Division, Readiness Group Salt Lake, responsible for the
training support to all combat arms Army National Guard and
reserve Component organizations in Utah, Nevada, Idaho and Montana.
Commodore Williams began his Coast Guard Auxiliary career in 1999 in
Salt lake City, Utah and has served in most elected positions in the
Auxiliary. Additionally he has held numerous appointed staff positions
at the Flotilla and Division level. He is AUXOP qualified, along with
current qualifications as a Coxswain, Vessel Examiner, Instructor, and
Program Visitor.
He
is a graduate of the United States Army Field Artillery Basic, Advanced
and Pershing Officer Courses. He also graduated from the Command and
General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth Kansas and the Army Installation
Managers Course at Fort Lee Virginia. He was awarded a Master of
Organizational Management Degree from the University of Phoenix in
1994. He is a graduate of the United States Coast Guard’s Auxiliary
Senior Officers Course.
Commodore Williams has received numerous awards and decorations. Among
those awards are the Meritorious Service Medal (5) Army Commendation
Medal (2) and the Army Achievement Medal. He has been inducted into the
Honorable Order of Saint Barbara by the United States Field Artillery
Association as well as the Honorable Order of Saint George by the United
States Armor Association. He has been awarded the Auxiliary Operational
Merit Award, Auxiliary Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Team
Commendation Medal (5). Twice he has been selected as the Auxiliarist
of the Year by the Utah Division of Natural Resources.
He
and his wife Linda live in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has a son and
daughter. He currently is employed as the Director of Development and
External Relations for Salt Lake City School District, as well as
Executive Director of the Salt Lake Education Foundation.

11 North of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the safety and
security of the citizens, ports, waterways and maritime environment of our area
through direct operational support to the Coast Guard, maritime domain
awareness, and programs that promote and enhance recreational boating safety.
